may I proudly say, I've moved away from the City of Panem to the dystopian Chicago world.
yeah you got it right..... just witnessed DIVERGENT........ and I'm seriously confused right now. HAHAHAHAHA
now this is the time I say, "I should have read the book first". but whatever, if the adaptation was good then whichever comes first would never matter.......
so I speak my mind in behalf of those who haven't read the book prior to watching the movie...
So DIVERGENT a movie adaptation of a best selling trilogy. it talks about a post-apocalyptic city of Chicago (fact from the internet. kekeke). People were divided into factions based on their own virtues; ABNEGATION-selfless, where public servants lie; CANDOR-honest, where justice and truth is their game; ERUDITE-intelligent, where science and technology lies; AMITY-peaceful, where self-sufficient people come from; and DAUNTLESS-brave, they're the war force of the city, peacekeepers we might say.
"faction over blood"
so every year, when children reach a certain age, they are being assessed as to what virtue appears strong in them, by then they are made to choose the faction they think they belong. they can choose to stay in the faction they were born or choose to forget family and live as an entirely different person in another faction.
so here we meet Beatrice Prior an ABNEGATION-born who chose to transfer to DAUNTLESS. but what
makes her different (and yeah, the main character in this story) is that she holds two virtues, which now makes her a so called DIVERGENT.
now, I was watching the whole movie and just can't avoid the thoughts of how much HUNGER GAMES-ish it is....
hunger games had districts - they had factions
huger games was made because of the war - they were divided into factions because of the war
both are scifi movies (???) [hahahah make that count]
and what else??? hmmm... and many more on the sides....
I'm not saying thought that they are TOTALLY and ABSOLUTELY copying The Hunger Games plot..... I'm just saying it reminded me about it.... [is it just I'm such a hunger games biased, or is it really.... hahahah]
what kinda annoyed me in the movie though is the mainstream love story.... like seriously, that moment they gave us a tight shot of Tris and Four during the first jump, I absolutely knew, "it's gonna be their love story"
and so the mainstream-ness began.... hahahaha.... didn't really like the mostly Tris-Four love plot in the movie.... they gave us more love scenes than I really asked for. [I don't know, was it really like that in the book?] I prefer seeing a whole lot of the fight scenes, though.
but I do confess, I fell for those [sometimes]
and you know what's the best part about watching this movie in a theatre, is that almost everyone in the room reacts the same way. One moment you'll hear a shriek in one side, and then the other, and then at you back, and finally you shriek out yourself.... ahahhahah! [even I and two of my friends do a chorus.. ahhaha]
and speaking of mainstream, that whole zombie-mind control-army thing was a SERIOUS old-school!. I've seen more than a lot of that.
above that though, I love how they gave a touch of family to it..... in their City they have this quote, kinda mantra that says "faction over blood", which pushes transfers to forget family and be loyal to their factions. but here, Tris chose to think of her family alongside of her faction. she insists that human nature does not always ruin the society.
now i know I haven't read the book yet, and so I resolve to grab a copy ASAP, so as to answer some questions I am curious about.
(1)
why is there an existence of Divergents? ................... I mean there's a very thin possibility for Divergents right, but as far as I can remember and I wanna believe so that Tris became a Divergent because she is a cross-blooded person. Her dad was a born-Abnegation and her mom is a born-Dauntless which explains...
and
are all Divergents in the same case (parents born from different factions)? ...............because if it is so, then they could have taken out that privilege of having the kids to choose transfer to another faction, since if they continue to transfer, Divergents will also continue to exist.
(2)
is Caleb a divergent too?....... well, knowing Tris' case then there's a possibility he is too..... I think he is.. ahhahaha
(3)
are all Divergents only come to Dauntless? ............. well since the movie only talked about Divergents in Dauntless, I would wanna know if there are some in the other factions as well..... or hmmmm, let's say, Divergents from Dauntless are the only ones in trouble of being found out since only they go through those training.... (?)
(4)
does that train really pass out of the walls of the city?............. I wanna know how they lived their lives till then...... what kind of story awaits us in the next book..... [is there a district 13??? hahahah joking aside]
oh well..... the overflowing blabs and questions.......
but then again, I'm not saying it's bad. It's AWESOME actually.... but there's something there that could have been even more amazing.... it's somewhere between GREAT and OKAY.....
it's cliche but it's cliche-dly awesome...... [yeah, just get what I mean] hahahah
I wanna start reading the book already, I wanna know how faithful the movie was to the book.....
I wanna find out if my mind would be cleared out of it's confusions after reading the book, or would it get even more confused, or just as confused as it is now....
well, I finished watching the movie...... next step would be reading the book...... DEFINITELY!
I may have been too biased or what..... I'd be happy to hear from you..... leave a comment!
fun fact!: did you know that the girl playing Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Caleb (Ansel Elgort) are both Hazel Grace and Agustus Waters in the upcoming movie FAULT IN OUR STARS........? [incest! joke!]
see I knew I saw that guy before..... I just forgot where... ahhahaha
