♔ the book came to life: Catching Fire movie
well you have read my older reviews on the Hunger Games trilogy [Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mocking Jay], I once ended it up with a "CATCHING FIRE... I'm so dying to watch you!" and so here I go, really allowed the weekend to pass without watching it.... [such a shame though, I was planning to watch it on IMAX, but due to circumstances in my country, I decided not to spend much on certain things as of the moment............]
so initially, i have no thoughts of making this review since I already reviewed the book... ,... but then friends kept on telling me to make one [they might just love my biasedly-unbiased reviews..... well if you know what that meant... LOL] ..... and so here I am writing it......
so, Catching fire, the continuation on the life of KATNISS EVERDEEN, one of the Victors from the 74th Hunger Games..... Katniss is back to her life in District 12... but now she's not the Katniss who suffers from Hunger in District12 anymore.... she's now the Katniss that survived the Games and is now the darling warrior, Victor of the 74th Hunger Games, of the Capitol.......
She's now a Celebrity alongside with her supposed-to-be star-crossed lover Peeta, going on Victory tour, getting televised and all that..........
unfortunately though, she was faced with another round back in the Arena, as the 75th Quarter Quell calls for tributes to be reaped from the existing pool of victors from each district, and she was the only girl victor of District12, which definitely entitled her for another round on the Games. so she went back as a tribute together with Peeta for the Quarter Quell.
[end of synopsis..... sorry, I might spill everything.. LOL]
now this might sound biased, but I seriously think this movie is really great![or whatever word of appreciation you might want me to use]...
I love the feeling of seeing an exact replica of the book come to the screen,..... well, it's just the feel that suggests so.... [it's not "exactly" like it. no, it's not a translation...LOL.]
it was by far one of the best book adaptation I ever saw...... it was so true to the book, that you won't even notice some parts were actually mixed with one another [might wanna know, I'm in the middle of rereading the book now, just to review some parts]...
I love how one major detail/scene was mixed with another just to compress it for the movie's sake....... it was mixed so flawlessly that you won't realize it was different scenes in the book.
this movie is like a KISS [Keeping it Short and Simple] version of the book, it still preserved the whole value of the book.....
yes there were lots of scenes taken away from the book and some sort of minor alterations, but it's just part of it, compressing a 400paged book [well my pdf says its 176 though] to a 2-hour movie would definitely ask for some chopping downs and mix-ins..... what matters for me is that the thought and the motivation of each character is preserved and delivered well....
i was kinda looking for more Katniss-Peeta moments though..... the movie was short of it... but then who cares, they're not that important right now..... [I'll just reread the book a hundred times for them.. LOL]
and I'd really love to see more action in the arena... the movie was composed of about 3/4 before the games, and 1/4 in the arena...... but then again, even the book was that short of the games.....
nevertheless,KUDOS to the director (Francis Lawrence) for doing a good job on the movie adaptation.....
I think the movie just gave me a clearer picture of the book....[all the emotions I gave out reading the book was just as the same when I was watching the movie] and that's what I love about it.....
.................
for the technical aspect though, I kind of go for the first movie.... well I was really buying the whole muted scenes and the shaky camera scenes that just adds up to the thrill of the movie.... but in this one it lacked that, or lets say there's an absence to that where I was really missing it.....
I don't know, those technicalities might be unnecessary for this movie, but I say, I was really buying those in the first one....
a lot of people leave comments about how the movie ended up hanging [in our dialect: bitin] and found themselves jaws dropped waiting for more while walking out of the theaters.................... well I say, it's part of it. even the book ended up hanging. it gave you that feeling of wanting to see the last installation immediately..... [even I jumped to reading mockingjay right after catching fire...hahaha]
and on a side note; don't you think Jena Malonedid a good job in this movie.... well didn't really appreciate Joanne when I was readin the book, but she just gave me another impresion of Joanne in the movie.... she did it well... thumbs up!
well, so much for my review.... kekeke... watch out for my next blogpost about me being a Hunger Games fan........ [coming up some time this week... =)]
PS: the wardrobes are freakin' amazing....esp Katniss' Wedding Gown, and that jumpsuit during thr reaping [well i know that most of them were reaped off from the runway kekeke]..... and I really wanna have them.
Thanks for reading!
